Conversion happens on your device. If automatic detection is incorrect, choose the input encoding manually. Some emoji and kanji may be lost when converting to Shift_JIS.
When text looks garbled in Excel
Japanese CSV files may use different encodings, such as UTF-8 or Shift_JIS. Try selecting the input encoding and saving as UTF-8 with BOM. The best setting depends on the software that will open the file.
Before converting to Shift_JIS
Emoji and some kanji cannot be represented in Shift_JIS (CP932). Keep the original file and review the converted version.
